I Never Realized I Was Using My Washing Machine This Way!

Are You Putting Laundry Detergent in the Correct Compartment?

Many people simply pour detergent straight into the washing machine drum without realizing that the dispenser drawer may be the better option. Depending on the detergent and washing machine model, using the designated compartment helps ensure that the product is released at the appropriate stage of the wash cycle.

Most washing machines have three separate compartments, each designed for a specific purpose:

  • Prewash compartment (I): This section is used for prewash cycles, particularly when dealing with heavily soiled clothes.
  • Main wash compartment (II): This is where you normally add your liquid or powder laundry detergent.
  • Fabric softener compartment: Usually marked with a flower symbol, this compartment releases fabric softener during the final rinse.

Knowing which compartment to use can help you get better results from your regular laundry routine.

A useful reminder: Check the maximum fill line before adding detergent or fabric softener. Filling a compartment beyond its limit may cause overflow or interfere with proper dispensing.
